Why I created this Newsletter
Because we forget. Because I forgot. At one point my life had become all about hitting the big goals, chasing the next milestone, crafting a picture-perfect life. It was like if I am not winning, am I even living.
But life has its own way of teaching you that there is a price for everything. Even if the success came through my own efforts and hard work, there was a trade off of which I wasn’t aware.
The trade-off of my “Sweet Nothings”.
It was sort of a birth right, my existential power, that ever so slightly got slipped away from me.
But it doesn’t have to remain that way. We have all the means to get back what is truly ours. Maybe, oh so gently, we can start erasing the lines. Start walking in between. First discretely and then loudly claim back more and more of our sweet nothings. Push the boundaries inch by inch while we have time.
Let’s not allow the tyranny of success and big achievements rob us of the joys of attempting something and celebrating small wins. These are vital to our being and we must consciously make space for it. Don’t let the loud voices shut out the faint whisper brewing in your heart, aching to come out.
What I mean by “Sweet Nothings”
The smell of freshly baked bread, the appearance of tiny leaves on your new sapling, a message from your crush even if it is just a “k”, the code that compiled, a walk in the forest, finishing reading a novel, wearing a hand-knit garment, the restacks and DMs on Substack, passing out while listening to stories from your mother, drawing pictures for someone who can’t hear, waving “hi” to a child, the waves of the ocean, rainbows in the sky. The list is endless.
These make up actions of pure joy, which don’t just disappear into thin air. It weaves into our bodies and we embody these as spaces within us. The space between our vertebrae, and the current between our heart beats, the light in our bones, the rush of blood in our bodies, these are fueled by actions of pure joy.
What to expect from this Newsletter
In this world where everyone is trying to bring to you something, sell you something, allow me to bring to you “Nothing”.
It won’t solve your problems, but may be for a few moments it will make you experience a different state of being. Which will give you the perspective to solve your problems.
Expect notes and posts drawn from personal experiences, insights and observation.
I will also occassionally post fictional stories.
This will remain a free newletter, but the content will always be drawn from a place of honesty and healing. Based on the reader’s response I may include a tip jar in the future. But for now the best way to show your love and support is through comments, restacks, likes and DMS.
